NASA: Icy Dunes Reveal Pluto Is Far More Dynamic Than Previously Expected

Newly discovered dunes on Pluto show that it has a far more dynamic atmosphere, NASA said.

National Geographic said that it has a dune field made from methane “sand.” The agency said the dunes are a relatively new phenomenon.

“Dunes on Pluto, or any other body, tell us there is a significant enough atmosphere to move materials around, and that there are particles to move—in this case, frozen methane sand,” said the coauthor of a study, Jani Radebaugh, of Brigham Young University, according to the publication.
